You know the love stories so saccharine and enthralling they make you want to swoon and barf at the same time? The kinds that start with talking endlessly (slash, incessantly) over coffee before finally parting ways because you technically have lives and responsibilities beyond the cozy cocoon of friendship and warmth you've managed to spin together in a matter of hours? And within days, one of you caves and suddenly emoji-laden texts and cute memes and dinner plans start flying about faster than your fingers can keep up? Then, before you know it, you're meeting their family on a romantic Hawaiian getaway?
You know, that kind of love story. Because that right there? — and we're not ashamed to say it — was the story of max&sam + doug&donna. (Except we sort of knew about the romantic Hawaiian getaway bit at the very beginning.)
Fast forward many months (it's hard to be specific when you're in love). A double hurricane bears down on the islands over wedding weekend, and max&sam quickly learn that a slippery, staining sheet of rain-battered red mud isn't really something those hastily purchased sport sandals are going survive.
But none of it mattered. Because as we slid up and down the magical venue, battled swarms of mosquitoes, and dipped our mud- and bug spray-calcified feet in a tiny stream nearby (because Kauai), all we saw — all we felt — was the overwhelming love vibrating through the crowd of wonderful humans who flew over land and sea, wept with happiness in the rain, and danced their pants off to celebrate Donna and Doug. And when we swept the newlyweds away for a quick portrait session the next day, the skies parted, offering us the dreamiest oceanside sunset ever (love-drunk hyperbole).
So, all of our undying gratitude to these two — for showing us what paradise truly means.
